Organics My first two years growing plants were synthetic years. I started out learning the process by growing vegetables hydroponically. When I started growing perennials, I continued on with the "Blue Liquid" way, because I was brainwashed by the powerful media. Libraries and used bookstores are some of my favorite places on the earth. There is an abundance of information printed on gardening and growing plants, and learning what it has to say is a basic need for me. The discovery of a beat up paperback book titled "The Secret Life of Plants" changed my whole perspective on the pastime of growing and gardening. The chapter about a French farmer who bucked the system and turned organic turned me on to organics. He turned dead soil back into life over hundreds of acres and eventually outproduced his naysaying synthetic farming neighbors, confounding the chemical based agriculutral community. Their general perception of organic farming is: bug infested puny yield. When you visit our nursery, you will find thousands of perennials and grasses that we grow with natural fertilizer, no chemical pesticides or herbicides. We have been fortunate that our beneficial bug releases have kept the bad bugs in check. You will find holes in the leave of some of the plants, as we grow many native plants that are hosts for caterpillars who eventually turn into beautiful flying flowers. I feel it is a small tithe to the mother earth in exchange for everything she gives us We convert most of our customers to feeding the soil because it is our mission. Their reward is more beautiful, healthier plants and a garden their families can frolic in without worry...the baby eats a tomato off the vine, and Mom smiles, (the alternative screaming and grabbing it out baby's hand). The dog rolls around on the grass, and he is not covered with pesticide, herbicides and chemicals. We sell a very specific kind of natural fertilizer in the Garden Shoppe. There are no bovine, equine or human waste or body components in it. These can carry disease. The main components are sea kelp, sunflower hull ash, crab and fish meal, and some formulas have rock phosphate. Try organics in your garden. You will be amazed with the growth and quality in your plants, and you will certainly feel great about doing the right thing...I know I did. See you in the garden! -Kristi
